Wilderotter has led Stamford-based Frontier Communications as chairman since January 2006, having joined the company in November 2004 as president and CEO and a member of the Board of Directors.

During her tenure, she has led Frontier through significant acquisitions and industry-shifting advances in technology. In December 2013, Frontier announced the signing of an agreement with AT&T to purchase its wireline business and statewide fiber network.

Addressing nearly 300 business members Wilderotter spoke with optimism about Connecticut’s future and her company’s commitment to its home state.

Starting her remarks with a reference to Frontier’s nearly completed $2 billion acquisition of AT&T’s Connecticut broadband, wireline and U-verse video and satellite TV businesses, Wilderotter said, “Frontier has been based in Stamford since 1946, but it took us almost 70 years to have a real reason to be headquartered in Connecticut!”

Pending final regulatory approvals of the acquisition, Connecticut will become the largest of Frontier’s 28-state operations with plans to add more jobs and increase local engagement.

Citing Connecticut as a state with “a bright future and great customer demographics,” Wilderotter pledged to “continue to invest in the telecommunications, broadband and video networks, a business model that has served us well in our current markets.”

Before joining Frontier, Wilderotter was senior vice president of Worldwide Public Sector at Microsoft. Previously, she was president and CEO of Wink Communications Inc., leading efforts to develop low-cost, end-to-end e-commerce systems. Before that, her positions included executive vice president of National Operations for AT&T Wireless Services Inc., CEO of AT&T’s Aviation Communications Division and a senior vice president of McCaw Cellular Communications Inc.

Three new board members were elected at the meeting. Pam Elkow, secretary of the Board of Directors and a partner in Robinson & Cole, announced the re-election of board members and the mid-year election of Richard Benson-Armer, managing director of McKinsey & Co.; Steven Gold, a partner with Shipman & Goodwin; and Tim Brown, chairman, CEO and president, Nestlé Waters North America Inc.

Board Chairman Rey Giallongo, chairman & CEO of First County Bank, presided over the annual meeting portion of the event. Giallongo also acknowledged the generosity of eight member companies that have provided support for the accelerated expansion of The Business Council’s work in higher education.
