The Christmas shopping season got off to a very brisk start at the Danbury Fair Mall on Black Friday. Crowds gathered to enjoy the sales, to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and to enjoy lunch at the Food Court. Cartoon characters such as Bob the Builder were on hand to greet the shoppers, to the delight of young children.
Many of the stores at the Danbury Fair Mall and the Stamford Town Center had opened by 6 or 8 p.m. Thursday night -- and stayed open all night and into late Friday evening.
By Friday morning, all of the stores in the two landmark Connecticut malls were open, with deep discounts offered from the anchor stores such as Macy's and JCPenney to smaller retailers including the Gap, Uniqlo, Hollister and Cotton On.
The food court outlets, including the brand new Chick-Fil-A in Danbury offered few discounts but did offer fuel and a place to sit for Black Friday shoppers looking to recharge.
And after a day off for Thanksgiving, Santa Claus was ready to greet kids, post for photos and decide who was naughty and who was nice as the Christmas shopping season officially began.
