Fairfield's General Electric Explores Options For Moving Out Of Connecticut

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- In an email Thursday to employees, the CEO of General Electric said the Fairfield-based company is looking at options for moving out of state after the passage of a new Connecticut budget, according to the Connecticut Post.

GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt, of New Canaan, has assembled an "exploratory team" to examine moving to a state with a "more pro-business environment," the Post said.

The new state of Connecticut budget raises some taxes on corporations. But Gov. Dannel Malloy said he has been in talks with GE about details of the new budget, the Post said.

General Electric, which employs 800 people at its Fairfield headquarters and nearly 5,700 people throughout the state, made a similar threat to move out of Connecticut earlier this week.
