Fresh Green Light was founded by Laura Shuler and husband Steve Mochel in 2009, with the opening of their first Driver Training Center in Rye, N.Y, their hometown. They have since opened centers in Greenwich and Darien with an emphasis on creating safer teen drivers.

“We know these communities need another driver training option that’s convenient, effective and affordable,” Shuler said in a statement. “We’re excited to offer our proven approach to teens and parents in this part of Connecticut.”

In a 2012 report on global best practices in driver training, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration featured Fresh Green Light’s program, describing it as “above and beyond most basic driver education programs.” Fresh Green Light was the only U.S. driving school to be profiled in the report.

Department of Motor Vehicle-mandated driver education classes are offered on weeknights and weekends, with open enrollment that allows students to attend classes in any order, at their convenience, over any length of time. Classes will be held at the centrally located Comstock Community Center in Wilton.

Driving lessons can be scheduled online, with home or school pickup and drop-off.
