Koellmer, owner of Realty Seven and a member of the chamber board for four years, takes over as president from outgoing Ralph Slater. She officially became president Tuesday at the chamber’s annual dinner at Rolling Hills Country Club.
The organization will focus on events that have gone well in the past, Koellmer said. Her main goal will be to create a new event to draw shoppers to Wilton.
A new event would be held in the first quarter of next year, she said, to help businesses attract customers after the holidays. In previous years, the chamber has created an annual street fair and the Scarecrow Festival to drum up business in Wilton Center. Although she has some ideas, Koellmer did not yet say what is planned.
“The more people can come to the center of town, the more business (they) can get,” Koellmer said. “Events bring people to town.”
She also wants to get more businesses involved with chamber activities and find a way to better serve businesses on Route 7. While Wilton Center serves as a major draw and host to most events, Koellmer said those on Route 7, including her business, should also have a role. “Our job is to reach out to Route 7 and get them involved and get them excited."
Koellmer will also work with the town’s newly created Economic Development Commission to determine what’s best for the town’s business climate.
