The app launched Tuesday by Beerdog.com allows users to chat about beer, maps out locations that locally brewed beers can be found and recognizes photographs of beer labels, all to add to your enjoyment of all things barley-related.

You can enjoy two Fairfield County events as part of Beer Week:

  • May 16: The Stamford Downtown Half Full Pub Crawl starts at the Seaside Tavern at 5:30 p.m. and heading to Station Eats, Butterfield 8 and Tigin Irish Pub. Discount of $1 off Half Full draughts for anybody attending the Pub Crawl. Lasts until 11 p.m. For more information, check this website.
  • May 17: An open house from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Half Full Brewery, 43 Homestead Ave., Stamford. For $15, you get yourself in the door armed with a Half Full-branded recycled plastic pint glass. The taps will be open -- it’s that simple! Try your hand at bags, life-size jenga, draw on our chalkboard wall or just enjoy some great conversation over great beers.

The app combines social media, image recognition and location services to connect beer fans with their favorite beers. It will also help support the Connecticut Beer Trail.

“Every beer that’s ever been made in the state [and] every venue you can find it is in my app,” Kevin Bradshaw, president and founder of Beerdog.com, is quoted as saying on CTNewsJunkie.com. “And it’s not just for people in Connecticut, the idea is that you can message in real time anyone drinking a beer through the app and encourage them to come to this state.”

State Rep. Chris Perone, D-Norwalk, said the app is the link that will connect tourists and local beer enthusiasts and encourage them to visit other nearby breweries.

“Having an app in their phone can digitally connect them to what the latest locations are. It’s the key to promoting this business,” said Perone, a member of the House Commerce Committee.

The Connecticut Beer Trail was launched in 2011 to promote the 18 local breweries in the state. For more information on the Connecticut Beer Trail and Beer Week, visit the Beer Trail website.
