New Store Offers Wilton Kids Fashionable Footwear

WILTON, Conn. – Wilton parents longing for a place in town to get their children footwear now have an option – with a familiar name.

Kathy Sanford, owner of Petite Chou Chou, says she's thought about opening a kids' footwear store for years. It's open now around the corner from the original Chou Chou clothing store.

Petite Chou Chou, a spinoff of the original Chou Chou women’s clothing store, is the newest shop in Wilton Center. The children’s shoe shop is located off River Road, not far from the original store that has been open for nearly 13 years.

Owner Kathy Sanford said she had long considered opening a shoe store in town since so many Wilton parents had asked her about stocking kids’ shoes in the original Chou Chou.

“This is a dream of mine that’s being fulfilled,” Sanford said. “I’ve always been interested in kids shoes. I have four daughters and many of the customers also have kids.”

The new store opened last weekend, stocked with footwear and accessories for children up to age 12. Many of those choices came courtesy of suggestions from Chou Chou customers, Sanford said.

Sanford’s daughter Katie, a buyer for Chou Chou, said many of the mothers who shop at Chou Chou are happy to have a place to get footwear for their kids without having to travel far.

“The little kids and their moms came by to see the selection,” Katie said. “The peoples’ reactions exceeded our expectations.”

Katie Sanford said she expects the store will see plenty of customers getting footwear for kids before the February break at Wilton Public Schools. Many of them will need shoes or sandals for travel to much warmer areas, she said.

Petite Chou Chou is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
