WILTON, Conn. — Wilton residents will soon have a hardware store back in town because a new True Value location is preparing to open in Wilton Center.
The new location will open in the Wilton River Park complex off River Road. The new franchise fills the void left when Keeler True Value closed its Godfrey Road location a year ago.
It is important to fill the space as well as have a hardware store in town, something that’s been a top request of residents, Wilton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Janeen Leppert said.
“People were really missing a local hometown hardware store,” Leppert said. “That’s been the No. 1 request. We’re really excited to fill that request.”
Officials from True Value could not be reached for comment Wednesday, but the store is expected to open soon. “They’re working to stock the shelves. They’re there every day,” she said.
The chamber is also working to fill other vacancies in town, Leppert said. That includes talking with Kimco Realty, which recently purchased the Wilton Campus Shops complex anchored by the Stop & Shop supermarket.
“We get a lot of calls from people looking for office space, and we send them out according to where they are looking,” she said.
