The fundraiser at Jersey Mike’s, known for its fresh-sliced and fresh-grilled subs, supported the Connecticut Sports Foundation (CSF) and the BraveCort Foundation.

Franchise owner Brian Kelley of Paradigm Investments, co-owner Troy Davidson, and area director Brian O’Hagan were joined by CSF founder and former New York Yankee John Ellis on the restaurant's opening day.

In a statement, Kelley called Ellis "a true hero in the community and has devoted himself to making a positive impact for children and families who are affected by cancer.”

CSF was founded in 1987 by Ellis, a 27-year cancer survivor. It provides funds to Connecticut cancer patients for rent/mortgage, utilities, transportation, medications and more. Resources are provided with dignity and privacy, helping patients maintain self-respect while lessening the stress that may inhibit their recovery.

The BraveCort Foundation, which focuses its efforts on research in the field of childhood cancer, was founded by Brian and Andrea Kelley in memory of their son Cort.

"The opportunity to develop the Jersey Mike’s brand in southern Connecticut is very special," Davidson said in a statement. "I’ve been in the franchising and restaurant business for many years, and this concept proved to be a great fit for me moving forward.”

Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s now has 1,300 restaurants open and under development nationwide. In just three years, the company has nearly doubled in size and has recently opened restaurants locally in Ridgefield and Fairfield.

The Wilton restaurant, at 35 Danbury Road, is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Call 203-803-4750 for more information.
