Radio Shack, With A Store In Wilton, Files For Bankruptcy

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Electronic retailer Radio Shack filed for bankruptcy on Thursday and could sell up to 2,400 stores nationwide in a restructuring move, according to Forbes.

The Texas-based electronics store held on longer than most of its peers by being the place where one could find wired accessories in the now-wireless world, Forbes reported. 

The company, which began as a leather shoe parts and repair store 94 years ago, filed in Delaware, claiming $1.2 billion in assets and $1.38 billion in liabilities, Forbes said. 

Radio Shack currently has 17 stores in Fairfield County: Bridgeport, Cos Cob, three locations in Danbury, two locations in Fairfield, New Canaan, two locations in Norwalk, Ridgefield, Riverside, three locations in Stamford, Westport and Wilton.
