Local organizations set up tents on the Green that patrons filtered through on their way to or from shopping downtown. Children and adults alike celebrated with a visit from Santa Claus and horse-drawn carriage rides through downtown.

Christmas gifts were on everyone’s mind, whether a gift for grandma or window-shopping for personal wish lists.

In Westport, Black Friday sales extended through the weekend and shoppers took they opportunity to weave in and out of the stores, holding hot beverages tight against the early winter cold.

The event is sponsored throughout the country by American Express. Those who used their American Express card on local purchases of $10 or more could  get $10 back up to three times throughout the day.

Small Business Saturday encourages shopping beyond the malls and big box stores that consumers hit up for bargains on Black Friday.
