Westport Business Helps Manufacturers Cut Through Web Clutter

WESTPORT, Conn. -- A new boutique company with offices in Westport and Manhattan has helped manufacturers earn record profits by selling directly to consumers, instead of going through a host of online marketplaces.

Potoo Marketing, co-founded by Westport's Fred Dimyan and David Veber, provides proprietary software and analytics that allow clients to reach consumers and sell directly to them through Amazon.

Potoo provides a template that increases market share and maximizes profits while also getting rid of unauthorized sellers, counterfeiters and others who dilute a company’s brand.

“Managing e-Commerce the Potoo way is transformational,'' said Veber, who has been a successful business executive at PepsiCo, Citibank and Kodak. “We impact a business overall and quickly become the largest growth opportunity.”

“There is so much noise on the Internet and with so many companies competing to sell the same product it sometimes cannibalizes the manufacturer and doesn’t give the best value to anyone,” said Dimyan, who has successfully built several successful technology based businesses including an e-tailer that is ranked in the top one half of one percent of all sellers on Amazon.com.

The company is named for the bird from the Amazon River Basin in South America that blends in and is integral to the ecosystem but is virtually invisible to the naked eye. The company accomplishes the same thing on Amazon’s website. Potoo only sells through Amazon.

Potoo has already taken on several new clients. Among them is a large consumer electronics company that approached Potoo about developing a winning Amazon strategy. Before Potoo came aboard Amazon chose the products sold and updates to listings took up to six weeks.

In the first month Potoo set up a branded storefront, updated all the listings and added product lines not previously offered online. In less than three months the company was able to increase sales 400 percent with greater profitability and costs have been reduced because of real-time analytics.

“We now have four times revenue with increased profitability,” the company said. “Potoo has given us a new way to manage overstock inventory too.”

Among Potoo's services, according to its website, are the following:

  • Track and remove unauthorized sellers
  • Drive sales and profit using data
  • Control price
  • Optimize image and brand
  • Launch new products
