The Westchester County-based retail food store operates on the principle of providing people with only clean and natural products. That means shoppers won’t find mainstream brands seen in traditional grocery stores.

“Having really good food that’s good for you and for the Earth is our No. 1 priority,” Chief Executive Officer Robin Michel said. “We’re committed to providing the most natural products possible, and clean, healthy foods that are free of preservatives.”

To do this, Mrs. Green’s works with a variety local farmers and other purveyors from around Connecticut and New York, like The Farmer’s Cow and Ronnybrook Farm Dairy, which is based in Ancramdale, N.Y.

Although Mrs. Green’s doesn’t carry brands such as Coca-Cola, Oscar Mayer or Frito Lay, Michel said that doesn’t mean shoppers won’t find soda, hot dogs or chips. Instead, she said, customers will find healthier versions of everything they would shop for at a typical grocery store. For example, the store carries a variety of uncured bacon and hot dogs, which don’t have added nitrates or nitrites.

Customers will also find in-store-made sausage, and a variety of fresh baked goods, homemade pizza, sandwiches, salads, soups and more.

One thing that makes Mrs. Green’s stand out from the crowd is that it boasts 100 percent organic produce, Michel said.

“We think that makes us unique,” she said. “Not many stores offer 100 percent organic produce, but a mix.”

Another aspect that make Mrs. Green’s different is the in-store coffee, smoothie and juice bar that also offers frozen fruit soft serve, made with only three ingredients: fresh fruit, water and a touch of pure cane sugar. The store also has a nutritionist on staff to answer customer questions, Michel said.

Located at 14 Danbury Road in the Gateway Shopping Center, the 15,000-square-foot store officially opens Friday at 6 a.m. The store will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

There will be a soft opening Thursday beginning at 5 p.m., featuring a silent auction.
