Shelton resident Beverly Lauren entered her dog Maya in the contest, which invited pet owners to submit a photo showing how their Invisible Fence system keeps their dog safe and happy.

Her contest entry showed Maya relaxing poolside in their backyard.

"There were more than 100 entries, but the judges fell in love with Maya as soon as they saw her photo,” said Renee Coughlin of Canine Company. “It perfectly told the story of a happy, safe, healthy dog.”

Lauren and her family were especially excited that Maya was selected because she is a recent addition to the family. They lost their 12-year-old chocolate lab Tucker last year.

“I was so attached to Tucker, I didn’t think I could want another dog,” said Lauren. Then she met Maya, whom she describes as “a love bug with an awesome temperament.”

Maya trained quickly on the Invisible Fence system the Laurens had in their yard for Tucker and now romps happily and safely in the yard.

Maya’s photo shoot for her billboard was completed earlier this month at the Laurens' home in Shelton. To get her camera-ready, she was first treated to a makeover in the Canine Company Mobile Pet Spa.

The billboard will be unveiled Monday, Oct. 3, on Route 1 in Fairfield.
