Two Eastonites graduated from Skidmore College the weekend of May 21.

? Emily Gorbach received a bachelor of science and arts degree.

? Elizabeth Roche received a bachelor of arts degree cum laude.

A total of 652 students in the Class of 2011 were recognized at the college's 100th commencement exercises. In addition, 30 students in the college's University Without Walls for non-traditional learners earned their bachelor's degrees. Ten master of arts in liberal studies degrees also were awarded.

The college awarded honorary degrees to three distinguished guests:

? Colin E. Greene, a 2001 graduate of Skidmore's University Without Walls program, principal of the largest secondary school in the Caribbean island of Antigua, member of the board of Education International, and leader for equitable access to quality education in developing countries;

? James M. McPherson, the George Henry Davis '86 Professor of American History Emeritus at Princeton University, and greatest living scholar of the American Civil War, whose many books include the Pulitzer Prize-winning Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era (1989);

? Anne Bogart, American theater director, co-founder and artistic director of the SITI Company with an emphasis on international cultural exchange and collaboration, winner of two best director Obie Awards and a Bessie Award for choreographer.

Following Skidmore tradition, a faculty member chosen by the senior class gave the commencement address. This year's faculty speaker was Erica Bastress-Dukehart, associate professor of history.

Other speakers at the ceremony were Skidmore President Philip A. Glotzbach; Janet Lucas Whitman '59, chair of Skidmore's board of trustees; and Elizabeth E. Gronquist, president of the Class of 2011.
