Two Metro-North Overpasses in Mamaroneck Undergo Repairs

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Large yellow cranes sat above the railroad overpasses Wednesday on Mamaroneck Avenue and Fenimore Road, as Metro-North Railroad makes repairs to the support structures, said Marjorie Anders, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The eight-week project is intended to rehabilitate and strengthen the bridges that hold up the railroad tracks over Mamaroneck Avenue and Fenimore Road. The repairs are confined to the structures along Track 2.

The work involves replacing the abutment back walls and their bearing systems, which Village Manager Richard Slingerland said are big plates of steel that sit underneath the structures that support the tracks.

The Metro-North Structures Department made the same repairs to Track 1 from October to late November last year. Tracks 3 and 4, the outside local tracks, were done years ago, Anders said.

Wednesday, both outside traffic lanes on the streets were blocked off, as well as the walkways underneath the two bridges.

Work will be done between the morning and evening peak hours, Anders said.
