Darien YMCA Invites Community To Team Charity Challenge

DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien YMCA invites the community to take part in its first annual Y Games: Team Charity Challenge at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 7.

The Y Games is a competition comprised of teams that will compete in seven fitness challenges. Specific challenges will be announced the day of the race and could include a stationary bike race, a timed rock wall climb, a swimming relay, and other activities testing participants’ strength and endurance.

There are two separate divisions of teams, family and elite (adults-only) with four individuals on each team. Family teams can include children age 10 and older and adults from either the same family or multiple families. Local businesses or groups of friends can compete in the elite division.

"The Y Games is the perfect combination of fun, fitness, and teamwork to benefit our community,'' said Stacy Branca, the chairwoman for the event.

Registration for the event has begun at the Darien Y’s website. Teams can register at the standard level of $200 per team plus a suggested $100 donation, or at the gold level of $500 per team or at the platinum level of $750 per team.  (Gold and platinum levels also include sponsorship publicity.)

Prizes awarded to the winning teams in each division will include tickets to a Yankees game, personal training and massages.

All proceeds from the Y Games will benefit the Darien YMCA Financial Assistance Program. Last year, the Darien YMCA provided more than $500,000 in financial assistance to children, families, and seniors in the community which included scholarships to camp and scholarships for special needs programs.
