YORKTOWN, N.Y. Bill Gorman told Yorktown officials that he is afraid for his young son's safety.
Gorman, who lives on Hanover Street, said vehicles routinely travel 50 mph or faster on what is a 30 mph residential street.
"You can hear the whizzing," he said. "It sounds like a speedway in front of my house."
Gorman took his concerns to the Yorktown Town Board this week and asked for a speed hump, stop sign or a children at play sign in an effort to try to slow motorists.
Councilman Nick Bianco said he was aware of the neighborhood and said that with construction on the Taconic State Parkway, he expected more drivers to use Hanover Street as a shortcut.
"It's a tough road. It's a windy road," Bianco said.
Councilman Terrence Murphy, serving as acting supervisor in the absence of Supervisor Michael Grace, promised Gorman he would visit his home with Public Safety Officer Larry Eidelman to come up with a solution.
"We'll address it," Murphy said.
