Winterfest, run by the Bethel Chamber of Commerce, is an event that brings the community together to socialize, shop local businesses, sample foods from area restaurants and have some fun while watching downtown light up in celebration of the holiday season, according to a release from the Bethel Chamber.

The event has been held for more than 20 years. It typically attracts well over 1,000 area residents and provides an ideal opportunity for local business to represent themselves to families in the community, the release said.

The Bethel Chamber is working with local businesses to create fun opportunities to encourage Bethel residents to shop local this holiday season and throughout the year.

Some of the festivities will include a cookie-baking contest and bake sale; horse-drawn carriage rides; soups donated by local restaurants and served by Cub Scouts; s'mores around fire pits; hot cider and cocoa; performances and more leading up to the tree-lighting by Santa, who will arrive on a fire truck.

The Bethel High School Choir will put on a performance leading up to the tree-lighting ceremony.  The Connecticut Choral Society will also sing at the event.

Individuals who would like to get their business involved, consider sponsoring the baking contest, a performance or a s'mores fire pit can do so at a reasonable cost. Their business name will be listed as the sponsor in the schedule of events/fliers, logo on the website event listing, banner or sign at the event and be mentioned as the sponsor during the contest and/or before after the performances and at the tree lighting.

For those who are interested in volunteering or need additional sponsorship information, contact Kate at the Bethel Chamber at (203)- 743-6500 or email kate@discoverbethelct.com. Sponsorship registration and information can also be found at this link.

The event will be from 1 - 6 p.m.
