Fairfield County Athletes Reach New England Podium

Fairfield Prep's Connor Rog finished second in the 3,200 meters while New Canaan's Caroline Murray reached podium in the 1,600 and 3,200 as athletes from Main Street Connect communities competed in the New England track and field championships in Burlington, Vt.

Staples athletes also won two events at the meet.

Rog ran 9:09.41 in the 3,200, which was won by Massachusetts junior Chris Allen. He ran 9:05.97. Weston's Stephen Vento finished ninth.

Murray finished fourth in the 1,600 (4:58.7) and sixth in the 3,200 (10:53.46). Her time in the 1,600 broke her own school record of 4:58.84, which she set when she finished third in the State Open.

Other girls who finished in the Top 10 from MSC communities included Greenwich's Abigail Markowitz (fourth, 800); Fairfield Warde's Cate Allen (seventh, 1,600); Weston's Kara Bucaro (ninth, 1,600); Greenwich's 4 x 400 relay (fifth); Wilton's 4 x 800 relay (10th); Darien's Liz Crafford (third, pole vault); and Weston's Erica Litvak (sixth, pole vault).

Greenwich's Timothy Frazier took sixth in the 100, and Westhill's Dillin Smith finished eighth. Other athletes from MSC communities who finished in the Top 10 included Weston's David Stankiewicz (eighth, 800); Greenwich's 4 x 100 relay (second); and New Canaan's 4 x 400 relay (eighth).

Staples won the 4 x 400 relay, and Lexie Schachne won the girls pole vault. Raphael Ray was also second in the 400. Complete results are available online.
