Students Will Be Seeing Blue in Dobbs Ferry Monday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Monday Oct. 3 is Blue Shirt Day in Dobbs Ferry as part of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Students in the Dobbs Ferry Union Free School District have been encouraged to support the event and many plan to wear blue shirts in unison.

Linda Lee, the district's director of pupil personnel services, will be leading the anti-bullying initiative, as well as Blue Shirt Day in Dobbs Ferry.

"It is important to change the 'culture' of an institution with positive behavioral intervention supports in order to develop an overall climate of respect," Lee said in a message released by the district. "This district-wide effort focuses on empathy, communication and bullying prevention to help students develop the skills, behavior and attitudes necessary to reduce the instances of many types of bullying."

There will also be a number of other activities in the district to go along with the bullying prevention awareness throughout the month of October.

Blue Shirt Day is an initiative of "STOMP Out Bullying," a national anti-bullying and cyber bullying program for kids and teens. The organization uses the annual event to bring awareness to bullying and to educate students and parents about the dangers of it.
