What's Happening in Peekskill This Weekend

PEEKSKILL,  N.Y. — A slew of art and music events will be happening in and around Peekskill this weekend.

Friday, May 18

• '80s Party: 8 p.m. The Peekskill Juneteenth Heritage Committee will be sponsoring an '80s party, with all proceeds going to the Annual Juneteenth Parade and Celebration on June 16. Tickets are $20 per person. For more information, contact the Peekskill Youth Bureau at 914-734-8418. The Peekskill Elks Lodge is located at 1038 Brown St.

• Anyone Lived In a Pretty Town exhibition: 5 to 9 p.m. A photography exhibition celebrating the importance of home, family and the passage of time as interpreted through the lens of artist Caitlyn Barrick of her hometown of Ringoes, N.J. The H-Art Gallery is located at 1 S. Division St.

• Live Jazz with the Andy Polay Quintet: 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The quartet will be performing Miles, Herbie, Shorter, Monk and more in a few hours of hot, spicy jazz. Admission is $10. BeanRunner Café is located at 201 S. Division St.

• 3 Ton Jack: 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. 3-Ton Jack is a band that provides a quality performance of rock and roll classics that span the decades. Admission is a $5 entertainment fee for all, including diners. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St.

• Tiki Daddy: 7 to 10 p.m. The Cold Spring-based group brings their Hawaiian Jazz and Swing to the outdoor beer garden. Admission is free. Birdsall House, 970 Main St.

Saturday, May 19

• Historic Treasures & Rare Artifacts reception: 1 to 4 p.m. In May and June, the library is celebrating its 125th anniversary with an unusual gallery display of rare items drawn from its local history collection, the Colin T. Naylor Jr. Archives. This is a rare opportunity to view a group of distinguished maps, documents and unique objects seldom seen by the public. Admission is free. Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave.

• Anyone Lived In a Pretty Town exhibition: 2 to 5 p.m. A photography exhibition celebrating the importance of home, family and the passage of time as interpreted through the lens of artist Caitlyn Barrick of her hometown of Ringoes, N.J. The H-Art Gallery, 1 S. Division St.

• Annette A. Aguilar and the Stringbean 4Tet: 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Aguilar has performed and shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, the Grateful Dead, Darlene Love, Jefferson Airplane, The Four Tops, Tito Puente, Dave Valentine, Ray Brown and Mose Allison, among others. • Daisy Jopling performs: 8 p.m. Peekskill resident and international recording artist Daisy Jopling will be performing a set of her violin-based rock. She will also be featuring a group of gifted string players from the Hendrick Hudson elementary schools. Tickets range from $25 to $50. Paramount Center for the Arts, 1008 Brown St.

• Shane Kirsch & the Fuzzy Flow: 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Earlier this year, the Fuzzy Flow celebrated the release of its new CD, "Lion in the Cut," at 12 Grapes. The band performs all original jazz-infused funk along with a few choice covers. Admission is a $10 entertainment fee or $5 with dinner entrée. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St.

• The Levins perform outside: 3 to 6 p.m. The group will perform in the outdoor beer garden. Admission is free. Birdsall House, 970 Main St.

 Sunday, May 20

• "The Wizard of Oz" puppet show: 2 p.m. Art teacher Jan Aiello will perform a puppet show based on "The Wizard of Oz" updated into in a modern setting. Admission is free. Hendrick Hudson Free Library, 185 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose.

• Art of Having a Baby Maternity Fair: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s lobby will be filled with more than 30 vendors offering services such as child care, photography and the latest in baby furniture and gadgets. It will feature tours of the hospital’s maternity department and workshops to educate parents on how to choose a birthing style as well as nutrition in pregnancy and the importance of breastfeeding. Admission is free.

125th Peekskill Village Spelling Bee at Field Library: 2 p.m. WHUD Radio personality Kacey Morabito has graciously agreed to be the Queen Bee in the final round of the spelling bee, celebrating 125 years of the Field Library. Children in two different age groups will be competing for fortune and glory as the city's top spellers.

• Taste of Home Brunch Democratic Fundraiser: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Peekskill Democratic City Committee will host a fundraising event. For more information, click here. BeanRunner Café is located at 201 S. Division St.

• Greg Westhoff's Westchester Swing Band: 5:30 to 8 p.m. Once each month, Greg Westhoff's Westchester Swing Band entertains with their talent and musicianship. This week, they celebrate their 50th performance at 12 Grapes. The $5 cover goes directly to the band. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St.

• Bluegrass Jam hosted by Trevor Hochman: 6 to 9 p.m. The event will take place in the outdoor beer garden. Admission is free. Birdsall House, 970 Main St.
