Jose Feliciano Sings in the Season

In 1970, Jose Felciano unleashed his joyful song, "Feliz Navidad." Its color and buoyancy quickly pushed it into the most popular holiday song pantheon. As with other holiday classics, each time the season rolls around again, the song brings back a sense of anticipation for good times to come and nostalgia for the people and places of holidays past.   For Ridgefield Playhouse, "Feliz Navidad" is especially meaningful because José Feliciano (a longtime Fairfield County resident) was its first performer when it opened its doors on December 5, 2000. He returns to the Playhouse exactly ten years later, on December 5, 2010, to perform "Feliz Navidad" and many more of his much-loved hits, "Light My Fire," and "Aint No Sunshine" among them.

Since he began his career at 17, Feliciano has had too many firsts to keep track of. But a parrticularly memorable one happened in 1968, when he performed the National Anthem during the fifth game of the World Series between the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals. His unique (and previously unheard of) stylization of the music caused a sensation and his version of the anthem became a Top-40 recording.

Come celebrate the season with master musician Jose Felciano when he returns to Ridgefield Playhouse, December 5 at 8 p.m. "Feliz Navidad," celebrating its four decades, will be just one part of this inspiring evening. Tickets are $90. For more information, including on Gold Circle tickets that offer a meet and greet with the artist, visit the Playhouse's website.
