Monday, April 30

From Washington to Lee: Colonial and Domestic Ties to the Civil War: 7:30 p.m. Author Matthew Bartlett gives a historical lecture linking the American Revolution with the Civil War, including tales of murder, adultery and stolen property. The discussion is offered for free at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road.

Representative Town Meeting: 8 p.m. The town’s legislature holds its monthly meeting at the Board of Education’s conference room, on the second floor of 501 Kings Highway East. The meeting agenda is available here.

Tuesday, May 1

Veterans Education Symposium: 4 to 8 p.m. Sacred Heart University and the Department of Veterans Affairs co-host a symposium to help veterans gather information about higher education and work programs for themselves and their families. The event is free at the school’s University Commons, 5151 Park Ave.

Fairfield Green Drinks: 6 to 8 p.m. The environmental group gathers at The Shack Bar and Grill, 2070 Post Road, to discuss eco-friendly projects in Fairfield. The meeting is free to attend.

Wednesday, May 2

Ladies Literary Luncheon: Noon to 2 p.m. Elin Hilderbrand, author of 11 books including “Silver Girl,” “The Island” and “Barefoot,” will be the featured guest at a fundraiser for the Friends of the Fairfield Library at the Patterson Club, 1118 Cross Highway. Tickets are $55 and available through the library website.

Board of Selectmen meeting: 4:30 p.m. Fairfield’s executive board holds its bimonthly meeting in the first-floor conference room of Sullivan Independence Hall, 725 Old Post Road. The meeting agenda is available at the town website.

Sharing Hope: Understanding Mental Health in the African American Faith Community: 7:30 p.m. The National Alliance on Mental Illness sponsors a free seminar on how families can find guidance and support when dealing with mental illness. The presentation is free at First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road.

Thursday, May 3

Images 2012 Preview Gala: 6 to 9 p.m.: The Fairfield Museum and History Center’s (370 Beach Road) annual juried photography exhibition, featuring an additional exhibit of the work of James Ruger, opens with a cocktail party. Reservations are available at the museum’s website.

Fairfield University Glee Club Pops Concert: 7:30 p.m. Fairfield’s student singing group will perform a collection of pop hits in its year-end show at the Quick Center for the Arts, 1073 N. Benson Road. Tickets are $10 through the theater’s website.
