Westport Police Arrest 3 On Multiple Fake Check Charges

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport police charged three men with attempting to cash fraudulent checks at a local bank Tuesday, July 15, officials said.

Officers responded to First County Bank on 1260 Post Road E. on a report of a suspicious person possibly trying to cash fake checks, police said. When officers arrived, the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle, according to police. 

A description of the vehicle was obtained, and officers stopped in the area of Post Road East and Maple Avenue, police said. 

Lezaun Bell, 44, of Windsor; Travon Johnson,32, of Hartford; and Patrict Dodd, 27, of Cromwell; were in the car and found to be in possession of numerous fraudulent checks, Westport Police said.

Each suspect was charged with eight counts of first-degree forgery, second-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, eight counts of trafficking personal information and eight counts of identity theft, according to officials. 

Each was held $20,000 bond with court appearances set for July 25.
