Maureen Corless, 33, was quickly returned to across from Bergen Regional Medical Center, where she reportedly has been a patient the past eight years. No injuries were reported.

Corless, of Dumont, took a Sunday morning walk along the day path of the center before returning to the emergency room intoxicated, several sources with direct knowledge of the situation told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Corless apparently headbutted a security guard who questioned her after smelling alcohol on her breath, the source said. She then bolted out the door, ran across the street and dashed a short ways up a fire escape at th
e back of 327 East Ridgewood Avenue, where she held negotiators at bay.

“If she jumped or fell, she wouldn’t be seriously injured,” a source at the scene told CLIFFVIEW PILOT while Corless was still on the fire escape. “She’s just about two stories up.”

Because she was blocking an access door, police talked her down one flight, the source said. As soon as she moved down, officers rushed out from behind the door and snatched her.

Corless, who lost both parents when she was young, had her arms amputated after placing them on a track in front of an oncoming train following an argument with her boyfriend, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.
