The Mark Twain Library will be accepting donations until Sunday, July 31. After that, volunteers behind the scenes will be sorting, pricing, and boxing the thousands of books in preparation for the Book Fair.
The 56th Annual Mark Twain Library Book Fair is scheduled for Labor Day weekend (Sept. 2-5) at the Redding Community Center. With close to 65,000 titles amassed, this year’s fair will continue in its rich tradition as one of the biggest – and the best.
“The Mark Twain Library’s annual Book Fair is one the most eagerly anticipated fairs in New England,” said Ginny Beasley, co-chair of the library’s book fair committee. “People travel from as far away as Maine to this fair because they know it’s the best place to find bargains, or rare treasures.”
On the first day, Friday, Sept. 2, there will be an "Early Buying" admission charge of $15 between 9-10 a.m. After 10 a.m., admission is free, with each individually priced book for sale as marked. There will be a special “Children’s Event” that afternoon from 2:30-6 p.m. featuring The Natural Scoop ice cream truck from 2:30-5 p.m., selling all-natural cold treats.
On Saturday, the fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and books will be sold as marked while Sunday will be a half-price day 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Labor Day, the fair is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; customers can purchase a full box of books for $10 or half of the marked price if a box is less than full.
Parking is free for the event, and refreshments will be available. All proceeds benefit the Mark Twain Library. The Mark Twain Library is owned by the Mark Twain Library Association. It was founded in 1908 by Samuel Clemens – Mark Twain himself – one of Redding’s most celebrated residents.
