Ridgefield Church To Donate Pumpkin Patch Proceeds To Fight Ebola

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Pumpkin Patch at Jesse Lee Memorial Church in Ridgefield has decided to donate all net proceeds from sales on Friday, Oct. 17, to Doctors Without Borders, as it works to battle the Ebola crisis in West Africa.

Doctors Without Borders, the first to respond to the Ebola crisis in West Africa, remains the primary international medical aid group battling the disease there. The scale of the crisis has overwhelmed the private international association, which is made up mainly of doctors and health-sector workers who provide assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, and to victims of armed conflict.

“Net proceeds from all sales on Friday – from the smallest set-around gourd to the biggest heaviest pumpkin – will go to help Doctors Without Borders fight this disaster,” said Nick Cappiello, manager of the Jesse Lee Pumpkin Patch.

The Jesse Lee Pumpkin Patch is an annual mission of Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church. Aside from Friday’s special giving, proceeds from the Pumpkin Patch are split by the church (to support its many ministries) and the pumpkin growers, who employ Navajo workers on Navajo land in New Mexico.

The Pumpkin Patch’s hours are: 2 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays; noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church is at 207 Main St., the intersection of Route 102/Branchville Road).
