Jesus’ meteor-like rise provides, as the title suggests, a parallel to contemporary celebrity worship. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, "Jesus Christ Superstar" illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.

"This is the fifth time I've worked on the show and I absolutely love it," Ursone said. "The story, the lyrics, and that score - oh what a score - just drew me in immediately and now, more than 40 years after I first heard the music, I find it just as exciting."

The Curtain Call production is directed by Debra Lee Failla, who was at the helm of the season-opener, "Rent."

"Deb has directed some of our most critically-acclaimed productions and is a gem to work with," Ursone said.

The set design is by Peter Barbieri, Jr., with costumes by Christine Mallardi and Peach Kraft, and lighting design by Scott Borowka.

The cast reunites Christian Cardozo, of Bridgeport, as Jesus, with Arielle Boutin, of Norwalk, as Mary Magdalene. Sharing the limelight as Judas Iscariot is a newcomer to Curtain Call, Pleasantville, N.Y. resident, Joey Sanzaro.

The rest of the cast includes, from Stamford: Heather Abrado, Joe Caputo, Sara DeFelice, Mike DeSalvo, Eric Hu, Beth Jackson, Rob Nichols, Nick Priscott, Zully Ramos and Wil Trebing; from Norwalk: Amy Ayala, Jeff Bianco, Scott Ferrara, Larry Gabbard, Peter Katona, Dom Lettera, Rebecca Romeo; from Westport: Daniela Sawyer, Sarah Sawyer, Sofia Weinberg; from Darien: Alyssa Morrin, Evelyn Sload; from Shelton: Bobby Henry; from Ansonia: Kellen Schult; and from Armonk, N.Y.: Zach Stuckelman.

"Jesus Christ Superstar" will play Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. There are also two Thursday evening performances at 8 p.m. on April 23 and 30.

Regular prices are $32 for adults, $24 for senior citizens and $16 for students and children. Thrifty Thursday pricing means all seats are $22. For tickets, contact the box office at (203)-461-6358 or online at www.curtaincallinc.com.
