Darien Opens Polls for Shuffle Voting

DARIEN, Conn. – Don’t forget to vote today in the townwide referendum on the shuffle project. Polls will be open until 8 p.m.

The much-debated shuffle calls for moving the Senior Center to Town Hall and the Board of Education offices to the old library at 35 Leroy Ave. Residents will be asked to vote either yes or no on allocating $6.97 million for the project.

First Selectman Jayme Stevenson asked that voters use extra care when driving in and around school polling places because traffic is particularly high during arrival and dismissal times.

District 1 votes at Ox Ridge Elementary and District 3 votes at Holmes Elementary. Both have an arrival time of 9 a.m. and dismissal at 3:30 p.m. District 4 votes at Hindley and District 6 votes at Tokeneke, both of which have an arrival time of 8:25 a.m. and dismissal at 2:55 p.m. District 5 votes at Darien High School, which has a 7:40 a.m. arrival time and 2:20 p.m. dismissal.

All residential property owners are eligible to vote in the referendum. Residential property owners who are not registered voters must cast their ballot at Town Hall, where they will be asked to fill out an affidavit claiming residency. You must be a U.S. citizen to vote even if you are a residential property owner in Darien.
