Adam Adelkopf, a Westport resident, who was a member of the orchestra during his youth, has been invited by Christian Capocaccia to perform Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto with the flagship orchestra, Young Artists Philharmonic.

He will be performing at the anniversary gala performance with his daughter, Robyn, concert mistress for the Young Artists Philharmonic.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my daughter’s high school graduation than being able to perform with her at the gala concert,'' Adelkopf said. "I am thankful that I was able to pass down the love of music to my children. Connecting with young people is hard, but I am fortunate to have the gift of music that enables us to speak a common language.”

This year’s gala performance marks the 55th anniversary of SYAP. It was founded by Salvatore Princiotti, who dedicated his professional life to teaching young people. Students were instilled to appreciate the importance of music education, learn to collaborate as a team, and to develop self-expression through music.

The anniversary concert will bridge the past, with the present and the future, with over 20 alumni arriving from near and far to perform with the current Young Artists Philharmonic. In addition, Princiotti will be recognized at the performance while his successor, Christian Capocaccia, will symbolize the connection to the future.

Also performing will be the Young People’s Symphony, SYAP’s upper-intermediate full orchestra, whose program will feature music of Robert Schumann and Richard Meyer. Opening the program is string orchestra for intermediate level players, the Young String Ensemble, who will perform music of William Harbinson, Alan Lee Silva, G.F. Handel and more.

The gala concert will take place at the Palace Theatre in Stamford at 4 p.m. General admission is $55 for adults and $45 for seniors. All students and music teachers are admitted free of charge. Tickets to the post-concert wine and cheese reception are $20 each.

SYAP is comprised of talented young musicians from southern Connecticut and northern Westchester counties and who train and perform in three orchestras: Young Strings Ensemble, Young People’s Symphony, and Young Artists Philharmonic. For more information on SYAP, visit its website.
