Monday, Nov. 12

Wilton Planning and Zoning Commission: 7:15 p.m. The Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a regular meeting. Wilton Town Hall, 238 Danbury Road.

Embroidery Workshop For Beginners: 1 to 3 p.m. The workshop, taught by Moira Craw, will focus on introducing students to creative needlepoint and stitchery. Students will work on a wall hanging or holiday ornament. Classes are $60 for historical society members, $75 for nonmembers. Tuesday, Nov. 13

Wilton Chamber of Commerce Dinner With Gov. Dannel Malloy: 5:30 p.m. The Wilton Chamber of Commerce’s 23rd Annual Dinner will feature Gov. Dannel Malloy as keynote speaker. Malloy will cover a variety of topics, including the business climate in the state. The 2012 Business Person of the Year will be announced. Outstanding achievements by Wilton businesses will be recognized, and the 2012-13 Board of Directors will be installed. Seating is limited and reservations are required. The cost is $100 per person. Wilton Historic District and Historic Properties Commission: 7:30 p.m. The historic district and historic properties commission will meet for a regular meeting.  Old Town Hall, 68 Ridgefield Road.

Wednesday, Nov. 14

English as a Second Language Class: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Twice-weekly ESL classes take place Mondays and Wednesdays through Dec. 12 given by Westport Continuing Education. (There are no classes Nov. 21.) Testing and registration required. Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Road.

Wilton Library Readers: Noon to 1:30 p.m. Professional book discussion leader Susan Boyar discusses "Stay Awake: Stories" by Don Chaon. The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month. Bring lunch; beverages will be provided. Advance registration is suggested. Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Road.

Thursday, Nov. 15

Children’s Advanced Chess Class at Wilton Library: 5 to 6 p.m. Children in grades 1 to 7 will get beginner chess instruction from Christopher Potts, an instructor, tournament player and US Chess Federation-certified tournament director. Advanced players will review the basics; learn strategy and tactics; learn opening and endgame play; and gain an appreciation for the importance of making and carrying out plans. Time will be provided for students to play games and put the classroom lessons into practice. Program fee is $80 per student for all eight meetings. In-person registration is required, and payment is due at time of registration. Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Road.

Further Poetic Excursions with Judson Scruton: 10:30 a.m. to noon. Judson Scruton leads this four-part Poetry Series exploring poems with a connection to November and December. Poems will be chosen from contemporary and classical English and American poets. Poetry packet will be available at the front desk one week before the series begins. Advance registration required. Friday, Nov. 16

Wilton High School Football: 5 p.m. The Wilton High School Warriors will host the Fairfield Warde High School Mustangs at Tom Fujitani Field. Wilton High School, 395 Danbury Road.
