WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton Library and the Wilton Historical Society will collaborate for their ninth Scholarly Series event to look at World War I beginning Jan. 31.

“We are so pleased to continue to bring this wonderful series to life with the help of prominent professors throughout the region," said Louise Herot, committee chair. "Each of the lectures is so well attended by very appreciative audiences.”

“America—From the Guns of August to the Gathering Storm - 1914 – 1939" will run through March and focus on the events building towards the Great War, its aftermath and how America faced national and international challenges.

“There is so much enthusiasm and thirst for this level of scholarship that it makes it a joy to plan each year," said Leslie Nolan, executive director of the Wilton Historical Society.

Weekly lectures will cover the following topics:

  • Jan. 31 at Wilton Library: America and the Rebirth of Poland, 1914-1921 with speaker M. Bolek Biskupski
  • Feb. 21 at Wilton Historical Society: Stories of Scottsboro with speaker James Goodman
  • March 13 at Wilton Library: Jazz Heritages with speaker Bob Riccio
  • March 20 at the Wilton Historical Society: World War I and the Future of America: From Isolation to World Policeman and the Foundations of 9/11 with speaker Matt Warshauer

Each lecture will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
