WILTON, Conn. -- People who like to make things, as well as those who are just curious about how things work or created can follow their passions Saturday at the Wilton Library.

Innovation Day will showcase the work of all ages of makers, who have embraced STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art or Math) or the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) movement.

Susan Lauricella, head of teen services and maker space coordinator, said the library is hoping it is a day of inspiration.

"We are just hoping that people get inspired and share with us what they have learned," Lauricella said.

The free event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be demonstrations, presentations, workshops, and exhibitions. Among the people and groups involved are a portrait painter and Ham radio enthusiasts, Lauricella said.

The library opened its Innovation Station last June as it joins a movement by public libraries to support learning new skills, collaborate, share ideas and create items ranging from robotic devices to quilts.

At the library there is a MakerBot 3-D printer, an iMac with Final Cut Pro, a PC with Adobe Creative Cloud, a digital scanner and more.

Lauricella said the Innovation Station has been used by individuals and student groups, but that it is still something new that many people have yet to use.

"There are still a lot of people who don't know about it," she said.

Janet Crystal, the library's marketing communication manager, said Innovation Day and the Innovation Station are important elements of what the library does.

"This has been something that has been part of our mission," she said.
