Change of Heart is a grassroots fitness program, presented by SELF Magazine, that works to educate women about heart disease and stroke in support of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement.
"Each year, one in three women die of heart disease and stroke, yet it’s 80 percent preventable," said Go Red For Women spokeswoman Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum. "Change of Heart connects us with passionate women who are united to take action, like scheduling a Well-Woman Visit for themselves, to protect their hearts and the hearts of their mothers, daughters, sisters and friends."
Wilton resident and JoyRide instructor Selina Santos will lead the sessions and share her own story.
"Diagnosed a few years ago with a form of heart disease, I am proud to host a Change of Heart event," Santos said. "The event is a fun way for us to bring together our members and the community to educate women about heart disease and stroke and motivate them to take charge of their health, and today."
The events will include a short presentation on heart disease awareness, followed by a 50-minute indoor cycling ride. All fitness levels -- including beginners -- are welcome.
The $30 fee is payable at the door; 25 percent the money will go to Go Red For Women. Participants will receive a goody bag of heart disease awareness information, a Go Red for Women pin and water bottle and a one-year subscription to SELF or Glamour magazine.
