Clearview Remains Family Business For Three Generations

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Clearview Inc. has been a family-run business for three generations, despite the many changes that have occurred since it first opened in the 1970s; and the family intends to keep it that way.

The specialty building material supplier, which sells products including shower enclosures, windows, doors and skylights, was founded by Jay Sheppard and his business partner George Nemeth in 1972. Sheppard and Nemeth worked together at Fairfield Lumber’s win-door division until agreeing to branch off and start their own business in Connecticut.

Sheppard’s son, Rusty, who was a child when the business began, grew up working in various positions at the company. His job description developed over the years, and in 1981 he began working full-time as a key employee. As he took on more responsibilities, he learned more about the business and ultimately his experience aided in his transition to a sales and managerial position. When Jay passed away in 2003, Rusty was prepared for the added responsibility.

Rusty and Nemeth continued to see the industry develop and evolve together until Nemeth’s retirement in 2015. “There have been significant improvements in style, energy efficiency, performance, appearance and ease of maintenance for exterior windows and doors as well as interior doors and glass shower enclosures,” said Rusty Sheppard.

Rusty’s son, Don, who was exposed to the business all his life, began as a helper through various roles and gradually learned the trade from the ground up. He has been part of Clearview’s skilled workforce full-time since 2010. His experience in the field has been invaluable for the logistics and sales role he is currently filling.

The legacy of Clearview Inc., which is based on personalized attention, has helped define the company as one of the leaders in specialty building products. For more information about Clearview visit their website.
