WILTON, Conn. -- A new paleo and gluten-free granola is on the market and the fact that it's from a local cook makes it that much sweeter.

Dr. Mary’s Kitchen LLC recently launched its new granola line at its first retail location: Village Market in Wilton. The company was founded in September 2015 by Wilton resident Tom Shrum and his family.

Free tastes of the company's Apple Crisp Paleo Granola and best-selling Original Paleo Granola, along with a demo will take place Saturday, January 30 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. For the first time, Shrum said the Pumpkin Spice Paleo Granola will also be available.

"We always encourage our customers to give us feedback on additional granola flavors they would like to see us develop," he said. "In the future we will be rolling out our lines of spiced seeds and dried fruit mixes.”

Shrum explained that the recipes for the granola come from his wife, Mary Frances Hamill, who also happens to be a dentist and has been for more than 30 years. Mary has always been a strong advocate for a healthy diet but years ago, when physicians recommended she switch to a gluten-free diet to improve her immune system, she took on the challenge of creating new foods and snacks that would surprise and please her family and friends as well as herself.

After lots of experimenting, she developed these granolas which Wilton residents are now encouraged to sample. Go to www.drmaryskitchen.com/.
