WILTON, Conn. — Wilton residents will be able to take a tour of the recently completed Wilton Commons senior housing facility during a dedication ceremony and reception this Saturday.

Construction on the first phase of the independent senior living community, which includes 51 affordable one-bedroom apartments, was completed in late April. Work on the facility began in April 2012.

A nearly $5.7 million state grant will fund the second phase of construction, which will include 23 more units. When completed, Wilton Commons will have 74 one-bedroom units, open to people 62 and older.

More than just apartments, Wilton Commons boasts a 24-hour emergency call system and a variety of amenities such as recreation and meditation rooms, a convenience store, a beauty salon/barber shop and a nurses' station.

Beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, residents can take tours of Wilton Commons during an open house. The tours will be followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Residents who wish to attend are asked to RSVP by contacting Grace Martinsen of the Mutual Housing Association of Southwestern Connecticut at 203-672-0219, or via email at grace@mhaswct.org .

More than 20 apartments have already been leased, according to the Wilton Commons website.  More information about the facility, including lease applications, is available on the website.

Wilton Commons is located at 21 Station Road.
