Stamford’s Cyndi Lauper Rocks ‘Truly Brave’ To Fight Pediatric Cancer

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford’s Cyndi Lauper has joined forces with songwriter Sara Bareilles, mashing up each of their signature songs to create “Truly Brave” to fight pediatric cancer.

Hoda Kotb of 'Today' teamed with Stamford's Cyndi Lauper and Sara Bareilles, who mashed up their hits 'True Colors' and 'Brave' to create a song to raise money for the fight against pediatric cancer.

Their song, and a music video featuring children with cancer from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, takes the spotlight in a fundraising effort led by Hoda Kotb of the "Today" show. The song has been played on television and can be seen above.

It merges parts of Bareilles’ single “Brave” and Lauper’s hit “True Colors.” The song already has nearly 1 million views on YouTube as of Friday and has raised more than $375,000 for the cause.

"We were lucky that it worked," Lauper said in a weepy interview on "Today." "I didn't know it was going to work."

They changed a few chords and added a dulcimer and the rest is song mash-up history.

But after seeing the video, she was won over. "Look at those kids?" she said. "How could you say no to those kids?"

The project is part of Kotb’s "Shine a Light" campaign aimed at raising money for pediatric cancer research.
