WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton Playshop is gearing up for its 77th season, which opens Friday with its production of the Tony Award-winning play "Dancing at Lughnasa."

Written by Brian Friel, "Dancing at Lughnasa" is a "poignant memory play set in Ireland in 1936, as told through the eyes of Michael Evans, who introduces us to the five amazing women who raised him. Into their lives comes a handsome stranger -- and their first radio. From these small events spring the cracks that will change the foundation of the family forever," according to a press release from The Wilton Playshop.

"Dancing at Lughnasa" was originally presented by the Abbey Theater in Dublin and won the Tony Award for Best Play during its Broadway run.

Mat Young of Norwalk will direct the Wilton Playshop production after directing last season’s "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." The cast features Patrick Duffy of Cos Cob as Michael, the play’s narrator and the five Mundy sisters are played by Robyn Mortiboys of Norwalk as Agnes, Karen Hanley of White Plains as Rose, Julie Thaxter-Gourlay of Port Chester as Maggie, Shelley Lepetich of Norwalk as Kate and Alexandria Clapp of Wilton as Christina. David Pirrie of Fairfield and Jeremy Funke of New Haven round out the cast.

"The Wilton Playshop is known not only for providing quality entertainment, but also for extraordinary design elements as well," said the release. "'Dancing at Lughnasa' is no exception, featuring lighting by Craig Gehr and sets designed by David Cunningham."

The show opens Friday with performances through Oct. 26. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students and seniors. The Playshop is located at 15 Lovers Lane in Wilton. Those interested in learning more or purchasing tickets should visit The Wilton Playshop website .
