After taking a one-year hiatus, the free festival returns to the grounds of the Wilton Town Green and Wilton Library this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature more than 80 exhibits and activities focused around eco-friendly living.
People interested in growing an organic garden can get started with help from Wilton High School teacher Jim Hunter and his students, who will be on hand selling a variety of young vegetable plants from their organic garden.
Anyone renovating a kitchen, looking to build an addition on to their home or building a new home can learn about the best green building and remolding practices from area professionals like Next Step Living, Rings End and BPC Builders.
Cooking enthusiasts won’t want to miss cooking demonstrations with Jonathan Mathias of and fellow chefs from A Dash of Salt Catering. Demonstrations are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., noon, 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.
Adults and children alike can take a journey to the center of the Earth to learn about recycling, conservation and sustainability inside a giant Earth balloon at the Wilton Library.
Live bands will perform throughout the day and a variety of food vendors, including Skinny Pines Pizza and Green Leaf Organic Bakery, will be onsite.
The festival will also feature electric cars, crafts and games for children, green and handmade products for sale, a free paper shredding truck from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., a Norwalk River Walk at 3 p.m., and a silent auction at the library from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items up for auction include a new bike courtesy of Outdoor Sports, a summer membership to the Wilton Family Y, tickets to the Westport County Playhouse, gift certificates to local eateries and more.
Although the festival doesn’t officially begin until 11 a.m., events start at 9 a.m. with the fifth annual Where the Wild Things Run, a 5K run through the trails at the Woodcock Nature Center. A children’s Fun Run will precede the 5K at 8:30 a.m. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Woodcock Nature Center, 56 Deer Run Road.
From 8:45 to 11 a.m., Sound Cyclists will offer guided bike rides of varying lengths and ability levels through town. All rides will depart from the Bright Horizons parking lot, 7 Godfrey Place. Participants must bring their own bikes and helmets. More information about ride levels and departure times is available online.
