Girls Circle is designed to increase positive connections while enhancing collective strengths and competence in girls aged nine to 18. The center plans to use the funds to run these support groups in middle schools and high schools throughout Lower Fairfield County in an attempt to reach about 70 adolescents.

“Girls Circle, a well-regarded evidence-based program, empower girls by teaching resiliency skills while simultaneously emphasizing the importance of good choices,” said Suzanne B. Peters, vice president of the Fund for Women and Girls, in a press release. “The Center is well known in Lower Fairfield County for its effectiveness at helping women survive and recover from sexual abuse, and the Girls Circle offering will continue to bolster the confidence and esteem levels of our region’s girls thwarting their likelihood of becoming future victims.”

Established in 1979, the Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education provides confidential help to men, women and children who have suffered any form of sexual abuse. Its service is offered on a 24-hour basis.

The center serves Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport and Wilton.
