CT United Ride Rumbles Across Fairfield County To Honor 9/11 Heroes

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — If you hear a rumble through town on Sunday, it probably isn’t thunder. The 2017 CT United Ride, the state’s largest 9/11 tribute, will be logging 60 miles through 10 communities in this fundraiser for fire and law enforcement personnel.

And if you are trying to travel through areas along the route, you may face delays or closures along the route on Sunday.

“For those that lost their lives, for those that gave their lives and for those that continue to put their lives on the line each day … that’s why we ride,” said Fred Garrity, Jr., executive director of the group.

The ride is one of the largest in New England and is likely to include 3,000 to 5,000 motorcyclists, attracting an estimated 15,000 spectators along the route, which winds through Norwalk, Westport, Wilton, Redding, Bethel, Newtown, Monroe, Trumbull, Fairfield and Bridgeport.

Residents and motorists are warned that delays will happen on many area roadways as the ride rumbles through. Police will be out in force for traffic control. Some roadways will experience closures, and/or restrictions on travel and/or turning as the ride goes through. 

Motorists should expect delays. as motorcycles begin to travel the route at 11:30 a.m.: 

  • Motorcade leaves Norden Park in Norwalk to Route 136 at 11:30 a.m. 
  • to Route 33 through Westport
  • to Wilton on Route 7
  • to Route 107 in Georgetown
  • to Route 58N in Redding
  • to Route 302 in Bethel
  • to Newtown's Route 25 through Monroe
  • to Main Street in Trumbull
  • to Old Town Road
  • to Park Avenue in Fairfield
  • and continuing into Bridgeport and straight down to Seaside Park with Bridgeport's Fire Rescue 5 leading the motorcade.

U.S. Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes and several local and state officials are expected to join the group in a tribute ceremony in Norwalk.

Gates open at 8:30 a.m. for riders to line up at Norden Industrial Park, 10 Norden Place. The tribute ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m.

Those who wish to participate in the ride may register from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. on ride day at Norden. The cost is $25 per rider with an additional $25 per passenger.

The ride ends at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.

Also this year, the CT United Ride is proud to announce that Fairfield-based Save the Children will be onsite Sunday. The group will be accepting donations separately to support its work to help young Hurricane victims in Texas, Florida and other states.
