The two 18-year-olds, Claire Borecki and JP Documet, were walking through Woodland Park on May 15 when the tree fell on the two of them. Though Borecki managed to escape with a few bruises, Documet suffered much more serious injuries, including a spinal injury, broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Because Documet's family does not have insurance, Borecki has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for his medical expenses. Borecki said that Documet's spirits are high and that he plans on walking at graduation and attending Tufts University in the fall, but he still has a long recovery ahead and his family needs support for mounting medical bills.

So far the GoFundMe has raised $15,650 in 11 days.
