Defense Class Returns to Library

Not everyone has over 20 years of martial arts experience as do Shelley Lindstrom and David Palmieri, which is why the Wilton Library is having the two teach another self-defense class for teens Wednesday.

The lesson at the previous class focused not on punching or kicking, but on avoiding potential threats. This a few of the participants left the class willing to do.

When Lindstrom said headphones make you an easy mark, Marissa Salvato decided her iPod was going to take a back seat to safety. "I always put my iPod in," Marissa said. "I won't do that anymore."

Although being more alert may help keep you out of a dangerous situation, there is no guarantee, and knowing that, Lindstrom will teach the class several basic moves to incapacitate an attacker. To learn these moves and more, head to the library at 4 p.m.

Lindstrom and Palmieri are library employees by day and instructors at their Norwalk Karate school by night.
