Famed Comedian to Perform Stand-Up in Ridgefield

When Mario Cantone takes the stage at Ridgefield Playhouse, expect appearances by special guests Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland and Bruce Springsteen. These are just a few of the celebrities the famed comedian will be impersonating March 2 for his solo stand-up show.

Cantone, who is well-known for his role as Anthony Marantino in the HBO series, "Sex and the City," has also appeared on the "Today" show, Comedy Central and "The View."

He says his upcoming show at Ridgefield Playhouse, which is part of the Ridgefield Magazine Broadway and Cabaret Series, will be a combination of old and new stand-up material drawn from different aspects of his life.

“I talk about my family, being Italian and pop culture,” Cantone said. “It’s a mishmash of a lot of stuff. It’s whatever taps at my brain and sparks my interest.”

There will also be material from a one-man show he is working on, following his previous shows, the Tony-nominated, “Laugh Whore," and the Tony award-winning "Assassins." Although the title hasn't be released, Cantone says the new project will be completed in the next few months.

Cantone will be performing with his band, which includes a musician from the Broadway hit “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”

This is also one of the first times he has performed stand-up comedy at a venue in Connecticut, Cantone said, joking, “it’s like I’m giving birth to the state.”

Before the show, audience members can stop at Terra Sole Ristorante, located at 3 Big Shop Lane, Ridgefield, for a free glass of house wine with dinner. All you have to do is show your ticket.

There also will be a free wine tasting in the lobby before the show courtesy of Melange Fine Wines and Spirits.

Mario Cantone will perform at the Ridgefield Playhouse at 8 p.m. March 2. Click here for tickets.
