Christopher Walken, who has owned a home in Wilton, turns 71 on Monday. The actor, screenwriter, director was born March 31, 1943, in Astoria, Queens, New York City.

As a child, Walken appeared on screen as an extra in numerous anthology series and variety shows during the Golden Age of Television.

His first film of the 1980s was the controversial Heaven's Gate and starred in the 1981 action adventure The Dogs of War. In 1982, he played a socially awkward, but gifted theater actor in Who Am I This Time?

He has appeared in more than 100 films and television shows, including The Deer Hunter, Annie Hall, The Prophecy trilogy, Brainstorm, The Dead Zone, A View to a Kill, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Catch Me If You Can, Seven Psychopaths and also starred in music videos of many popular recording artists.

His films have grossed more than $1 billion in the United States.

He has also played the lead in the Shakespeare plays Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and Coriolanus.

He wrote and acted the main role in a play about Elvis Presley titled Him, in 1995.

He debuted as a film director and script writer with the short film Popcorn Shrimp in 2001.

He is a popular guest-host of Saturday Night Live, having hosted seven times as of April 2008.

He costarred with Al Pacino and Alan Arkin in the film Stand Up Guys, and also appeared in  a film for 2013 called The Power of Few.

He has received a number of awards and nominations during his career, including winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1978 and received a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play.
