Letter: Help Needed to Keep Warm in Wilton

WILTON, Conn. – The following is a letter from state Rep. Gail Lavielle , R-Wilton, concerning the Wilton Warm Up Fund .

Last year, nearly everyone in Wilton found out what it was like not to have electricity, heat or water for several days. Not daunted in the slightest, Wilton’s great community spirit rose to the occasion each time a weather disaster struck, as people all over town displayed extraordinary generosity by pitching in to help their neighbors.

Now many of our neighbors need help once again to keep their homes warm over the next few months. The Wilton Warm Up Fund provides emergency heating assistance to Wilton residents, and 64 families have applied to receive it.

This year, however, federal funding cuts to the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program have depleted the fund’s resources. It is depending on individual and corporate donations to serve those in need.

Cathy Pierce and the staff of Wilton’s Department of Social Services have been working with great seriousness and urgency on the fundraising efforts, coordinating with many town and religious organizations to involve the community.

Local businesses, including Conceptual Designs, JC Signs, Paul’s Prosperous Printing and Realty Seven, have generously supported the outreach program with time and funding.

If you’d like to join this important community effort to help our neighbors, consider making a tax-deductible contribution. It will go in its entirety directly to Wilton families in need.

To contribute, make your check payable to the Wilton Interfaith Council Inc. and mail it to 180 School Road, Wilton, CT 06897. You can be sure that whatever you can give will make a difference.
