Long-Standing Wilton Barns Get Restoration Money

WILTON, Conn. – The Comstock Barns are seeing a continued effort to restore them with a $5,000 grant from the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation.

Located across from the church on the corner of Ridgefield and Belden Hill roads, the Comstock Barns represent Wilton’s 18th and 19th century life in the heart of the Wilton Center Historic District.

“We are incredibly grateful for the financial support Wilton Congregational Church has received from The Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation,” said Buildings & Grounds chairman Bill Follett. This is the second grant the church has received from the trust.

The 2010 grant allowed the church to stabilize the entire fieldstone foundation, laying the groundwork for future restoration. This new grant will be used to secure existing structural supports, add new foundation supports and install a new roof, a significant step toward full restoration.

The grants are matched by a fund established by the church in 2010.

“The Comstock barns are a landmark that is part of Wilton’s heritage,” said State Rep. Gail Lavielle, R-Wilton. “I am pleased that the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation has chosen to make a contribution toward ensuring that everyone who lives in and passes through Wilton can enjoy these structures for many years.”
