WILTON, Conn. – After a long winter, Wilton residents will once again be able to shop for fresh produce and other local goods as the Wilton Farmers Market opens its 2013 season on Wednesday.

The market will pop-up outside the Wilton Historical Society, 224 Danbury Road, every Wednesday through Sept. 30 and will feature new hours of operation from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Also new this year will be two special market in October: one on Oct. 9 and the other on Oct. 30.

The weekly outdoor market—organized by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce and the Wilton Historical Society—features a variety of area vendors offering local produce, organic dips and salads, baked goods, jams and jellies, granola, freshly made pasta, homemade olive oil, and other local homemade and organic items.

Some vendors participating in this year’s market include Wilton’s own Ambler Farm, Redding-based Fresh Pastabilities, Olive Oil Factory from Waterbury, New Canaan's Bistro du Soleil, Carrot Top Country Kitchen from Redding and Norwalk’s Simply Delicious Catering.

Not only does the market provide residents the opportunity to support local vendors, it also helps educate people about eating locally and making healthy food choices.

The market is just one of several events being presented this summer by the Wilton Chamber. This Sunday, the chamber and the Wilton Family Y are presenting the eighth annual Georgetown Gallop 5K Road Race at 11 a.m.

This 3.1-mile race will run along Old Mill Road and end on Main Street in Georgetown. The entry fee is $15 in advance and $20 the day-of. Registration can be completed online or the day-of beginning at 10:30 a.m. outside Mini Vinny’s Delicatessen, 12 Old Mill Road.

The race will be followed by a kids' fun run and later the 13th annual Georgetown Day celebration.

The chamber is also hosting the sixth annual Taste of Wilton from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Trackside Teen Center on June 17. This delicious event will feature various food and drink purveyors from the area who will showcase samples of their products. More than 300 people are expected to attend this year’s Taste, according to a statement from the chamber. Taste tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door, and are available at Fairfield County Bank, the Wilton Bank, Wilton Y and the chamber office.

On July 20, the second annual Street Fair and Sidewalk Sale will transform Old Ridgefield Road into a pedestrian walkway lined with shopping, food and drinks from local restaurants and caterers, and activities and entertainment for residents of all ages.

For more information on any of these events, visit the chamber website or call 203-762-0567.
